So, I'm sitting here watching the Philles/Braves game and, surprise surprise, the Phillies have not scored a run yet through 5 innings.
This is getting to be a bit tooooo familiar lately for the Fightin Phills. First the almost no-hitter that the Red Sox handed them a week ago Saturday, then the sweep of shutouts handed to them from Los Mets, and still another one Sunday from the Marlins. Sure, we took two from the Fish, but we needed a PERFECT GAME from Doc to win one of them, and we only scored 3 in the other win.
(OMG as I wrote that paragraph, Chase got a hit and RYAN HIT A HOME RUN!!! thank GOD we don't have to see a shut out tonight... now can we see a win?? please??)
How worried should we be though?? As Mat Gelb from the Inquirer tweeted earlier tonight, after 51 games in 2008 the Phills were 27-24. If they lose tonight, the 2010 record will be 28-23.
So yah - better than their record from the year they won the World F'n Series.
That has to make you feel better. It also has to make you feel better that the Phillies have only had Jimmy Rollins for, what, 12 of those games this year? And that just about EVERYONE has been hurt so far. The left side of the infield has been consisting of a mish-mash of Castro/Dobbs/Valdez REGULARLY.
And they still will have a better record after 51 games than they did in 2008.

Speaking of Roy's PERFECT GAME. Wow. I was trying to be all non-anti-social on Saturday night. My in-laws were over. We were all hanging out on the deck. I had the game on the TV in the living room, and tilted it just so, and parted the curtains on the glass sliding doors to the deck just so, so that I could at least glance over at the score easily. I was loosely following along on my phone, and trying to keep up with the Flyers game too.
One glance after the 7th inning to my twitter feed and I could tell something was up, so I opened up the box score and saw the Marlins had 21 At Bats, and nada to show for them. I pushed the phone over to Mr. ChickPhilA to glance at, and started to really pay attention to the TV through the door.
After 1 out in the bottom of the 8th, I declared, "if what is happening really is going to happen, I am going to have to go inside to watch this."
We all moved inside, and watched the final inning. And it was awesome. And I shed a little tear.
It was unbelievable, but at the same time, haven't we all been expecting Roy to be perfection since the Phillies signed him? I mean, every time Roy takes the mound, he has the ability to throw a no-hitter or perfect game. Maybe we'll see another one from him this year?

I was excited for the Phillies to play the Braves again in Atlanta for one reason only - the Braves Organist. Then I saw that his wife gave birth to their baby girl over the weekend, and was sure he wouldn't be at any of the Phillies games this week.
I was really happy, then, when I saw that he would be back starting with tonight's game. He did not disappoint - even with those non-regulars in the line up. We got the Brady Bunch theme for Greg "Brady" Dobbs, random Rush songs after foul balls (woo hoo Subdivisions!!), even Jethro Tull's Aqualung. Of course he played the Mr. Softee song for Chooch again. All was well in the musical world of the Ted.
The folks over at Crossing Broad did a Q&A with the man behind the organ himself a few weeks back, and it's posted now over on their site (with a few questions submitted by me). Check it out here.
I am hoping for a Smoltz/BravesOrganist accordion duet at the Ted one of these days...

Okay - off to watch Contreras get out of this inning....
